Cat lady
Back to blogger. After almost 20 years. Coincidentally my first post in 2005 was about my sister's cat Mimi and this post is also about my other sister's cat Mimi part 2.
Mimi 1 is healthy, happy, and old at about 20 years now.
But this is about Mimi part 2. She has left behind this mortal life at the age of 4 years.
Cats have very individual personalities once you really know them and love them. Mimi 2 was mild-tempered, playful, extremely hilarious, timid around humans but with a fierce animal instinct.
Yes, my world seems quieter and colder without her purring, her nipping at my ankles, and her regular meow for food or petting.
This has led to certain ruminations on death. It is inevitable but we are always unprepared. We can never escape the pain of missing the presence of a loved one- human or animal. We struggle with our human flaws and think could I have done things in a different way? Could I have avoided his/her death if I had done/not done something? Could I have been better?
We can always be better. Hell yes, I sure can. But the passing of a dearly beloved always reminds of how human we are in our vulnerabilities. It also reminds us of our divinity- remember our maker or look at the bigger picture and the interconnectedness of the bigger designs of life and beyond...in all its mysteries.
I know I will always miss my feline friend of 3 years. Animals are not human, thank god. Their ability to connect is on a beautiful level of consciousness different from human capability. We need the companionship of our furry friends.
Death is not to be feared when it comes to you. We fear the suffering that might precede it but it is a part of all life on earth. When death comes for a loved one, we fear the sorrow and sadness that we have to endure. The passing of the mortal body and the ascending of the eternal soul is for all of us to accept with faith until we ascend.
Mimi lived life cat size with extreme grace and unconditional love. A cat, a companion, a hunter of lizards, rats, frogs, and assorted birds, an observer of life from her perch on the washing machine in the balcony. When I was upset she would come and rub her head on my leg or sit near me. A hilarious friend, she watched me very bemusedly when I vomited into the toilet the morning after a drunken Friday night revelry. Memories with her are precious and will always be close to my heart till the day we meet again in the large green pastures of paradise filled with trees and birds which we both like for reasons disparate and similar.
